Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, son of (late) Mr. Muhammad Sharif(1919–2004), graduated from Government College, Lahore with distinction. He belongs to a family of distinguished business community, started his professional life as a businessman and became the President, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 1985. Later, he joined active politics and served as Member, Punjab Assembly during 1988-90; and as Member, National Assembly during 1990-93. He was elected as Member, Punjab Assembly again in 1993 and served as Leader of the Opposition during 1993-96. He became Member of Punjab Assembly for the third term in 1997; was elected as Chief Minister and functioned as such till 1999 when, as a result of military coup, his government, along with the Federal Government, was toppled. He was imprisoned and then exiled. He has played a leading role in the restoration of democracy in the country. Having been elected unopposed as Member, Punjab Assembly for the fourth term, he is presently functioning for the second time as Chief Minister, Punjab. He is a dynamic political leader known for his strong and efficient administration. Better health facilities, educational reforms and economic uplift are his top priorities. He has made extensive travels abroad. His brother and incumbent Prime Minister Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif served as Provincial Minister in Punjab cabinet during 1983-84; as Chief Minister, Punjab twice during 1985-88 & 1988-90; and as Prime Minister of Pakistan during 1990-93, 1997-99, and 2013-Incumbent. LAHORE, July 23: The provincial cabinet meeting lasted for three hours with Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari in the chair at his office today. The meeting started with the recitation of Holy Quran. After finishing agenda items, Provincial Finance Minister Zia Haider Rizvi presented the proposal of voluntarily donating one day or two day salary of Punjab government employees to the fund set up for Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam. The Chief Minister and cabinet members agreed with the proposal and it was also agreed upon that employees will not be bound for compulsorily donating their salaries for this purpose and they will do so voluntarily. Zia Haider Rizvi disclosed that four crore rupees saving has been made in the expenditures of Chief Minister’s Office in one month only. The cabinet members expressed their pleasure over it. Dr. Askari said that expenditures should be further curtailed; on which, cabinet members smiled. The Chief Minister gave final opinion after the opinion of relevant ministers and briefing about nine point agenda of the meeting. He said that medical board has been constituted for diagnosis and treatment of former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and further decisions will be taken in the light of report of medical board while air-conditioner has been provided to him in the jail. *****
LAHORE, July 22: Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Dr. Hasan Askari has congratulated nation for whitewash in series and victory against Zimbabwe in 5th one day match. He also paid tribute to opener Fakhar Zaman for making world record in one-day match series. Dr. Hasan Askari said that Pakistani team has outclassed Zimbabwe in bating, bowling and fielding. Players have made our nation proud and I congratulate whole team over this grand victory. He said that good game is expected from our players in future as well. Moreover, Dr. Hasan Askari said that pride of Pakistan; opener Fakhar Zaman has broken the international record of fastest 1000 runs and brought glory to his country. While applauding Fakhar Zaman further, CM said that by making the record of highest individual score in 5-match series, he has provided the nation with a reason to be happy. ####
LAHORE, July 22: Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Dr. Hasan Askari has inaugurated the project of Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology worth of 01 Arab. After inauguration he visited the institute and inspected its different sections. He also visited patients over there and enquired about their health. He also probed the attendants about the medical facilities being provided to their patients. This institute will facilitate the patients from 06 Districts of the Division with latest medical treatments. Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology is equipped with latest facilities including heart surgeries, CCU, Cardiac Emergency, Angiography, Angioplasty, Eco-Cardiograph, Radiology and Technical Laboratories. This project whose foundation stone was laid in 2006 and construction was started in 2007 however it was made operational fully after 12 years by Interim Government. Institute has capacity of 200 beds and initially arrangement of 100 beds is available. It will provide around 50 Lac patients with latest medical facilities. With the establishment of Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology, patients would not be needed to refer to Lahore or other big cities. OPD was established in this institute in 2014 and in 2016 coronary Angiography facility was made available for the public. Now in 2018, it offers 24 hours emergency and latest facilities of CCU and Cardiac Surgery. 07 senior Registrar Cardiology, 03 senior Registrar Cardiac Surgery, 33 Medical Officers and 58 Nurses are performing their duties in this institute. While addressing at this occasion, caretaker CM said that in-time completion of such projects is the need of hour as it will provide people of that area with quality medical facilities. He said that serving humanity is the responsibility of every one along with the government and role of Doctors and Nurses in this noble cause is undeniable. He said that treating patient amicably takes away half of their ailment. He said that the facility which is inaugurated today will flourish further in future and will assist whole community. Patients not only from Wazirabad but from Gujranwala Division and other neighboring areas will also be benefiting from this hospital whose credit goes to the collective teamwork, he added. Dr. Hassan Askari further said that even though it took 12 long years to complete this project but we hope that other needful facilities will be provided within time. He congratulated Caretaker Minister Health Jawad Khan and his team who worked hard by day and night to complete this project and now it is attending 1500 patients on average at daily basis. While addressing a query, Dr. Hassan Askari said that some of the complaints trigging out are related to Federal and other departments and addressing them is not in our control nevertheless we are trying to address the complaints which fall in our jurisdiction. A strategy has been devised in this regard, likewise Caretaker Interior Minister Shaukat Javed takes instant action against these complaints while implementation of Code of Conduct issued by Election Commission is also ensured. Interim Punjab government is assisting in Electoral process under the framework of Election Commission and political parties are also taken on board. He said that proper security is being provided to political gatherings as terrorism incidents have already took place in Baluchistan and KPK. Dr. Hassan Askari further added that cooperation at every level is mandatory for transparent elections and it is our utmost priority to provide peaceful, free and independent environment for it. He said that prompt notice on media reports is also taken and further action as well as. He said independent election could take place only if we cooperate with each other and everyone will trust them only then. He also added that Shehbaz Sharif is a national leader and everyone is free to express his opinion. While answering another question, Dr. Hassan Askari said that prisoners in jail are provided with facilities according to their status and categories. Responding to a query he said that there are only 2,3 days lefts in election and our prime focus is on fair, transparent and impartial elections. Later on, Dr. Hassan Askari inaugurated afforestation campaign by planting plant in the garden of Institute of Cardiology. He watered the plant and prayed as well. He said that Interim government has started this campaign in whole province and we are planting trees as this is the only way to minimize environmental pollution and Smog. He said that such trees that give shadow and fruit should be planted. Taking care of trees after planting them is also necessary. Provincial Caretaker Ministers Zai Haider Rizvi, Dr. Jawad Sajid Khan, Sectary Specialized Health Care, Medical education and other concerned authorities were also present there. ####
LAHORE, July 17: A seven-member delegation of Federal Republic of Nigeria led by acting Director General of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Mr. Jonathan Mela Juma called on Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari at his office, here today. During the meeting, different matters of mutual interest including promotion of Pakistan-Nigeria relations in different sectors and arrangements of upcoming elections in Pakistan came under discussion. Talking on the occasion, Dr. Askari expressed the hope that visit of Nigerian delegation will usher in the start of a new era of bilateral cooperation as tremendous opportunities exist to further expand trade and economic relations between the two countries. In this regard, bilateral relations should be further strengthened at the level of chambers of commerce and industry as trade and commerce relations can be further boosted through the exchange of business delegations. Delegations representing different walks of life including media, teachers, students, doctors and civil servants should be exchanged, he added. He said the role of media is especially important for boosting the mutual relations. The close contact and cooperation will further enhance the bilateral relations besides helping to understand each other, he added. He said that Punjab is an agrarian province and its economy is mostly based on agriculture. Pakistan and Nigeria can further improve their relations by reviewing opportunities of mutual cooperation, he added. Talking in the backdrop of menace of terrorism and extremism, Dr. Askari said that terrorism is a serious challenge for Pakistan and the international community. Pakistan has bravery faced the menace of terrorism and the armed forces, law enforcement agencies as well as the police officials have written a new history of bravery by sacrificing their precious lives in this crusade. Nigeria is also facing the monster of extremism and I am of the opinion that both the countries are facing the challenge of changing the mindset for overcoming terrorism and extremism. Both the countries can also benefit from each other’s experiences for eradicating terrorism and extremism, he added. He said that terrorism and extremism can be routed by solving the socio-economic issues of the people and for that purpose; there is a need to give attention to creating new earning opportunities for the youth. He said that majority of population in Pakistan consists of the youth and therefore, providing better employment opportunities to them is a national obligation. I believe that Pakistani youth is highly talented and intelligent and they have proved their mettle at every occasion, he added. There is a need to take concrete steps by making the youth as skilled workforce to meet the needs of the market. Talking about the gigantic CPEC project, Dr. Askari said that Pakistan is providing the best communication set-up from China to Gwadar through this project. Work is underway on industrial zones, power generation units, economic and communication projects in Pakistan and other countries can also benefit from the CPEC, he added. He said that China has extended a wonderful investment package to Africa as well and this investment heralds the bright future for them. He apprise the delegation about arrangements of holding free and fair elections in the province and added that all the necessary steps are being taken for holding the elections on July 25 in a transparent and impartial manner. The voters will be provided peaceful atmosphere on polling day so that they could use their right of franchise independently. He said that all political parties are being provided equal opportunities for the elections and reiterated that caretaker government is taking all the necessary steps for holding of transparent and impartial elections. Peaceful holding of elections on July 25 is our responsibility which will be amicably performed, concluded the Chief Minister. Jonathan Mela Juma said that Pakistan is a wonderful country and the people are very affectionate and loving. Visiting Lahore is the most unforgettable and memorable experience and we are desirous to learn from the experiences of Pakistan in different fields including elimination of terrorism. Lahore July 11: A delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) led by its secretary general Sarmad Ali called on Caretaker Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari at Chief Minister’s Office, here today. During the meeting, Fateha Khawani and prayers were offered for the martyrs of Peshawar tragedy and early recovery of the injured. The meeting also strongly condemned the Peshawar blast. Talking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that best possible safety arrangements are being made in wake of security threats. Any speculations about holding of the elections are unnecessary and totally baseless. Matters relating to the elections and other relevant issues will be settled with mutual understanding and in consultation with the political parties, he said. The caretaker government is facing the triangular challenge of elections, security and day to day issues. District administration is responsible for elections related matters and their arrangements at the grassroots. Caretaker government will prove its neutrality with its actions. He said that caretaker government is committed for ensuring law and order during the elections. Everyone has to play its role for the elimination of terrorism. Equal opportunities will be provided to the political parties and peaceful atmosphere will be arranged for the people in elections. He said that caretaker government is totally neutral and apolitical and will remain so. We are working with our limited mandate and framework of the election commission, he added. Media should create public awareness during the elections. We are not oblivious of problems of the newspapers industry and have sympathies towards media workers. He said that merit and transparency will be ensured in the distribution of advertisements. Payments of outstanding dues of the advertisements will be made soon. Sarmad Ali said that DGPR Department of the Punjab government is the most organized and best institution and Punjab province has the unique honor of appointing the female as the DGPR. Edhi was an asset of Pakistan and he was true identity of Pakistan. He served humanity without discrimination of race, colour and religion. He is pride of humanity and he proved respect for humanity is the foundation of every religion. He spent all of his life in the service of humanity and today we need to promote this passion in every field of life. The best way to pay homage to Edhi is to serve the distressed humanity. ####
LAHORE July 07: Interim Chief Minister Punjab Dr. Hasan Askari has said that first and last priority of the interim government is to hold the general elections in a transparent and peaceful manner. The interim government is totally impartial and apolitical. Talking to representatives of foreign media, Interim CM Dr. Hasan Askari said the interim government has been set up to ensure holding of general elections in a transparent manner and for transparent polls every possible efforts are being made. We will ensure peaceful and free environment for elections. He said all political parties are getting equal opportunities for polls. The interim government is taking measures to improve law and order. He said holding of general election in a peaceful manner is our national responsibility and it will be discharged at any cost. He will discharge all legal and moral responsibilities efficiently. Interim Finance and Law Minister Zia Haider Rizvi was also present on the occasion. ####
LAHORE July 07: Interim Chief Minister Punjab Dr. Hasan Askari presided over a high level meeting at the CM Office, here today. The preparations for the general elections and arrangements for floods, dengue and polio were discussed in the meeting in detail. The meeting decided to deploy two lakh and 59 thousand police for the election duty. The meeting also decided to provide security to important political personalities due to threats. Security will also be provided topublic gatherings and rallies, and candidates will be provided due security. Addressing the meeting, Interim CM Dr. Hasan Askari said 47473 polling stations will be set up for voting that will be held for 141 seats of National Assembly and 297 seats of provincial assembly of Punjab. Mechanism with Pakistan Army, Rangers and other security agencies for peaceful law and order was also given final shape. Section 144 has been imposedacross Punjab for the implementation of ElectionCode of Conduct. The Cabinet Committee for Law and Order regularly reviews security situation in the province.The interim chief minister directed indiscriminate action against violators of the Election Code of Conduct and said divisional and district administrations and police should take immediate against the violation of the Code of Conduct. The Election Code of Conduct should be implemented strictly. The transparent and peaceful holding of the general elections is our joint responsibility. Everybody should discharge their duties with honesty and dedication. We will be able to discharge our national duty in an effective manner if we work with honesty and dedication. The interim government is taking all measures with consultation. The interim chief minister directed to pay special attention on the law and order and security situations. The election code of conduct should be implemented strictly for the successful general elections. The administration and police should maintain close contact with contesting candidates. The meeting decided to keep constantmonitoring of protective embankments in view of flooding. The interim chief minister said no stone should be left unturned in the arrangements to manage flooding and monsoon rains. The departments should keep themselves alert during relief and rescue work during rains. He said flood monitoring room is working 24/7. The departments have set good example by showing excellent performance during heavy rains. It proves that we can get good results with teamwork. The interim chief minister said embankments of rivers should be checked regularly. While reviewing arrangements for dengue, the interim CM said the decided plan for dengue control should be implemented strictly to avert dengue outbreak. The implementation of the dengue control plan is a big challenge. He said polio control is our national duty and joint efforts in this regard should keep continue. The meeting was informed that there are 6335 A category polling stations, 16944 B category polling stations and 24201 C category polling stations. As many as 2832 violations of Code of Conduct have been reported across the province so far and action has been taken as per law. The meeting was told that 854 boats, 17968 life jackets, 4050 life rings, 1437 de-watering sets, 48799 tents, 21620 blankets, 52 boat trollies, 30 generators, 49939 plastic mats and 43226 mosquitonets have been stocked. The meeting was told that surveillance team are working for dengue control. No death has been reported due to dengue this year so far. The suspected cases of dengue are less as compare to the last year. Arrangements are complete for polio control and no case of polio has been reported this year so far. Interim provincial ministers Zafar Mehmood, Shaukat Javed, Jawwad Sajjid and Saeedullah Babar, chief secretary, additional chief secretary, additional chief secretary home, senior member Board of Revenue, IGP and senior officers of concerning departments also attended the meeting, while commissioners and RPOs attended meeting via video link. ####

He is pride of humanity and he proved respect for humanity is the foundation of every religion. He spent all of his life in the service of humanity and today we need to promote this passion in every field of life. The best way to pay homage to Edhi is to serve the distressed humanity. ####
LAHORE, July 06: Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari has said that best results can be achieved by benefitting from the fruits of cooperatives movement and added that economic conditions of the people can be improved by further activating the cooperative organizations. In his message issued here today on International Day of Cooperatives, the Chief Minister said that purpose of celebrating this day globally is to express solidarity with the people associated with cooperatives movement. He said that role of cooperative organizations is very important for providing best facilities to the people for living a better life and added that role of cooperative organizations in distributing loans to the farmers is also laudable. He said that cooperative organizations and the people associated with this movement should review their performance because this day provides them an opportunity to devise course of action by removing past drawbacks. He said that this day requires that cooperative activities should be promoted and its role in the society should also be further highlighted. LAHORE, July 06: Chairman PEMRA Saleem Baig called on Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari at Chief Minister’s Officer, here today. During the meeting, implementation on code of conduct of Election Commission for media was discussed. Talking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that caretaker government has taken necessary steps for holding transparent and impartial elections and it is our national obligation to discharge our responsibilities in a good manner. He said that media plays an important role in public opinion and its importance in the present era needs no explanation. The role of media in electoral process and during polling is very important. The media has to play its role for the mobilization of voters and will have to perform its duty in a responsible way during the electoral process. He said that collective strategy has to be employed to achieve the goal of free and fair elections because transparent and impartial elections are our collective objective and the caretaker government is committed for the fulfillment of this national objective. *LAHORE, July 04**:* Managing Director National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) Amjad Khan called on Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Dr. Hasan Askari at his office, here today. During the meeting, matters relating to the projects started in collaboration with NESPAK came under discussion. Talking on the occasion, the Chief Minister appreciated the collaboration rendered by NESPAK in various ongoing projects. He said that caretaker government has been continuing public welfare projects. Government is working with commitment, passion and hard work to provide facilities to the citizens, he added. He said that line departments have taken prompt action to deal with the situation arising due to unusual rain. The Mall Road will be opened for traffic soon after filling the sinkhole, he added. He said that inquiry committee has started to investigate the matter and necessary steps would be taken in the light of report of this committee. He said that administration and line departments have arduously worked in a professional manner to normalize the unusual situation. MD NESPAK said that his department will provide free consultancy for development projects and cooperation with the Punjab government will be further strengthened.
